"Opposites Attract", Annual Feltmakers Ireland Members Exhibition at Phoenix Park, Dublin May 4th- 26th

This weekend on Star Wars Day- May 4th (be with you) the annual Feltmakers Ireland members exhibition opens!

This exhibition runs for the month of May in the visitor’s centre at Phoenix Park, Dublin.

It is a lovely annual event highlighting members’ work. This year the title is “Opposites Attract.” I believe there are approximately 30 pieces on display ( of nearly 90 members).

I have a piece in the exhibition. My piece is called “Where the land meets the sea.” It is 30cm x30cm square and hand wet felted in wool and silk, in vibrant colours from opposite sides of the colour wheel- purple and yellow.

By using colours from opposite sides of the colour wheel and fibres from both animal and insect, I have tried to interpret the land and sea and how these opposites attract.

The piece is inspired by my “spiritual” home of Co. Donegal and a recent trip to a windswept cliff top, Horn Head, Dunfanaghy.

People often refer to Donegal as the county where “The land meets the sea”; The vistas are immense, and the sky is vast. However, there are also wonderful tiny landscapes in every rockpool, to be found, examined, and explored. This piece is inspired by such a landscape.

If you are in the park or looking for something to do over the next month, why not pop over. The cafe is lovely too for a coffee and cake!

Sadly I won't make the "Grand" opening... as I'll actually be in Donegal for a little R&R... but I will be there all day on Friday May 10th... I plan to bring along a little felt making work to occupy myself with while I take my turn invigilating for the day... pop in, it would be lovely to chat to pass the hours 10am-4pm.
